TUNIS

The capital, Tunis, is unique. It is a place where numerous cultures collide. African, French and Middle Eastern influences are in everything from the food to the buildings. The city itself though is a modern conglomeration of steel and glass and the roads are filled with yellow cabs. The Medina, however, is crammed with antiques, carpets, perfume and spices and is a haven for souvenir hunters. A few miles outside Tunis you will find the remains of the legendary city of Carthage. Carthage was founded in the 9th century by Phoenician traders and the Carthaginians developed ship building skills and dominated the seas for centuries.
